I began making pots as a teenager and after A levels did a Fine Art degree in sculpture at Reading University. I went into teaching but continued to make and sell thrown and modelled pieces.
On moving to Wales I was able to concentrate on making and marketing my work both locally and further afield.
I work in porcelain and stoneware, which are different clays but which fire at the same temperature. This for a small producer is very practical for filling a kiln.
The stoneware figures I model are circus based and are coloured, the porcelain bowls are painted with actual plants and are black and white. The glazing is just enough to seal the colour not to create a shine.
Both the figures and the bowls explore balance. I make each piece individually, essentially for myself, and if other people like them enough to buy them that is a bonus.
